Varsity to produce new organic fertilizer for farmers
SETIU: Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has introduced a course to produce compost fertilizers to farmers in the state to replace the existing chemical fertilizers.
State Agriculture and Agro-based Industry chairman Asha’ari Idris said composting is the best alternative to help farmers in Terengganu to reduce cost.
He said compost fertilizer, made by using waste matter, could be used to nurture crops and was suitable for all types of crops.
“Farmers can produce their own compost fertilizer at low cost. Among the ingredients that can be used are coconut husk fibre, roasted husk, sand, sawdust and charcoal,” he said.
Asha’ari said the Terengganu government was trying to find the best methods to help farmers and the programme held by the UMT was most appropriate for the need of the state.
Compost soil or compost fertilizer is one of the natural or organic fertilizers made through the decomposition process to produce essential nutrients required by the plants. — BERNAMA
