Awarded inventions

SEPARATING chilli seeds from dried chillies may not be such a daunting task, at least not in the near future — thanks to an invention from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).
The varsity’s Dried Chilli Seed Separating Machine by Shayfull Zamree Abdul Rahim from PPK-Manufacturing was one of the items that won the gold medal at the recent 10th Malaysian Technology Expo.
The university was the big winner at the expo, bagging a total of four gold, seven silver and 16 bronze medals.

Other gold winners were the Nano-Biochip By Size Expansion Technique For Label Free Detection product by Prof Dr Uda Hashim from the Centre for Micro-electronics Engineering Studies (PPK) and Prof Dr Syed Alwee Aljunid Syed Junid’s Modified Double Weight (Mdw) Code. The fourth gold for the university came from its Switched Parasitic Patch Antenna Array for Smart Antenna Application by a group of researchers also from the PPK-Computer and Communications.
UniMAP’s vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Kamaruddin Hussin, in a statement issued recently, expressed his gratitude and happiness on the success of the young researchers at the university.
“This goes to prove that the products of the young UniMAP researchers have big potential of being exposed later,” he said.
In addition, the university also received five special awards.
The expo, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, was organised by the Malaysian Association of Research Scientists and Protemp Exhibitions Sdn Bhd, aimed to showcase the latest breakthroughs in R&D and technology as well as provide market opportunities for business and research organisations.
This year’s expo also featured GreenInnovation, a showcase of innovative and viable green technologies, products and services.
More than 488 researched products were showcased at the exposition by 350 participants and 300 member researchers from various academic and research institutions, government as well as private agencies throughout the country.
Researchers from countries such as Iran, Croatia, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea also took part in the exposition. — Bernama
